Geography We aim to develop the children's awareness and understanding of the world around them, starting with their immediate surroundings and then moving progressively out into the local and then wider environment. Geographical skills and language are developed through topics and this approach gives scope for developing first hand awareness of the local environment, and a greater understanding of the world in which we live.

History
Children are helped to develop a sense of time and the past starting with themselves and their own experiences. Their understanding is developed through a series of blocked units of study, which involve investigating the local history, learning about aspects of everyday life and important events in the past. Children are encouraged to ask questions about the past and how people behaved. Artefacts are used to help them develop historical enquiry and observation skills. To make it more meaningful to children, experience is drawn on from their own lives and visitors are invited into school to share with them their knowledge and experience.
