Summer Term 2008 Welcome to our Year 2 Newsletter Dear Parents, Our topic for the summer term starts with an adventure deep into the jungles to discover all about plants, animals and environments. We will then be looking at the importance of habitats and the differences between them. We will be studying the famous painting by Henri Rousseau and be encouraging the children to design their own Jungle collage! We then move onto Explorers and Space, where we will be discovering all about the history behind the First man on the moon and we will be designing and making some of our own space transportation. This topic will also be the main focus for our literacy work where we will be looking at and writing information books. In Numeracy we are continuing to delve into the depths of multiplication and division as well as reinforcing different strategies to help solve a problem. Measure, shape, money and time are also on our number journey this term! The children will be starting their SATS tasks and tests over the course of the summer term. These will be timetabled in during normal school activities and will be done in small groups with an adult. This is going to be as stress free as possible, and once again we would like to reinforce that the children’s final grade is levelled from the whole years work rather than just based purely on these tests. After the summer half term we will be looking at the Seaside, both the historical and geographical factors In literacy we will be reading lots of books all about the Lighthouse Keeper and his friends We will also be thinking about change in relation to the changes we are about to make in our lives as we move towards Junior school. In PSHE will also be talking about changes in our bodies. As well as this in Science we will be looking at changes in materials and investigating appropriate uses for different types of material. PE days continue to be the same Willow and Sycamore have PE on Mondays and Fridays, although we will be venturing more outside this term (games and athletic activities in store!) with the warmer weather so we encourage the children to bring in their trainers! Worried We hope that if you do have any worries or concerns about your child that you feel we need to know about, you will come and speak to us as soon as is convenient for you or to make an appointment for a chat! We hope you enjoy our new topics! Miss Holland and Mrs Essex Mrs Colbourn, Mrs Dennis, Miss Wedgewood, Mrs Ujszaszi and Mrs Garrett
