Governing Body of North Farnborough Infant School for Summer 2008

The Governing Body is an important group of people who are responsible for working with the Head teacher and the school staff to ensure a high quality education at North Farnborough Infant School . They are responsible for staffing levels, school budget expenditure, curriculum policy and the school site.

Our Governing Body is made up of volunteers who are appointed for a period of four years.  North Farnborough Infant School governors are often in school, formally and informally keeping in touch with all aspects of school life. They are happy to discuss any queries you may have and welcome feedback from parents.

The full Governing Body meets together twice each term. There are three sub-committees who meet more often to discuss curriculum, finance, personnel and buildings matters.

The Governors produce a report for all parents, which is issued two weeks before the Annual Parents Meeting. This evening meeting provides an excellent opportunity for everyone involved with the school to talk together, to celebrate its achievements and discuss the way forward. Parents are encouraged to air their concerns and to share in planning for the future.

At North Farnborough Infant School we pride ourselves on having a dedicated and committed Governing Body. All Governors work to ensure the effective management of the School and contribute a range of skills from a variety of different backgrounds. All Governors can be contacted via the School Office.

Mrs Gill Hartley ~ Chair of Governors

I have spent my working life as a primary teacher and Deputy Headteacher, mainly in Essex and Surrey , teaching children aged 4 - 11 but specialising in Infants. When I retired from teaching in 1999 I wanted to keep in touch with education and so became a Governor at North Farnborough Infant School . My husband and I live in Fleet. We have two sons and 6 grandchildren, and these, together with being a governor and interests such as gardening, voluntary work for The National Trust, holidays etc. keep us fully occupied.

Mr John Summersby ~ Vice chair of Governors

Married with two children - both girls.  Danielle has now left to go to Junior School and Nicole is in Year 1.  First contact with the school was back when we visited in order to make a decision about the most suitable Infant School for our children. I was impressed by the ethos and welcoming approach.  Like most parents, I believe these early years at school are important in terms of encouraging the children to enjoy learning and I am keen to support the school through the role as Parent Governor.

Mrs Michelle Moore ~ Head teacher

After gaining her teaching qualification, Mrs Moore taught in a village primary school for a number of years before moving to Farnborough. She has had a wide experience of teaching in the 4 ~ 11 year age range. In recent years she has gained her National Professional Qualification of Headship. Mrs Moore is also the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator and is responsible for ensuring that Individual Education Plans are formulated for children with special needs. She is also responsible for Planning and Assessment. She was appointed as Deputy Head teacher in April 2001 and subsequently appointed as Head teacher in September 2004.

    Ms Kate James

I have been involved with NFIS since my eldest child started here in 2000. My third child is now in Y2 when he leaves this summer I will greatly miss being a parent at the school.  I enjoy helping in the classroom whenever I can and, along with my husband, I have been involved in running and
supporting Friends events.  I am the supervisor of a local pre-school.

Mrs Elizabeth Whiteley ~ Early Years Teacher

A languages graduate, Mrs Whiteley has been a teacher for more than 20 years, working with the whole range of age groups from adults through to Reception. At North Farnborough she has responsibility for Science and the Intercultural curriculum and she also uses her French and German skills at Golden Time. She enjoys being one of the Staff Governors in school.

Mrs Sharon Seymour

I am in my second term of office as a governor of North Farnborough , having just completed four years! I am a teaching assistant at the school and have worked in Early years for nearly six years. I feel I bring lots of experience to the Governing Body as both of my children came to the school as well.

In my spare time  I enjoy model engineering, acting as a volunteer, gymnastics coach and  training in Karate.

Mrs Paula Doyle I am a parent governor with a son; Conor who started YR in September. I work four days a week as a qualified Occupational Health Advisor for a health care provider. In my spare time I enjoy being with my boys (husband and son), shopping therapy when I can and attending my dance class.
I have continued with my own educational training, and have an interest in this area.

Mrs Clare Hills

I have two children, Thomas has just joined reception this year, and Andrew who is 2.  I am married to a primary school teacher, so I have a good understanding of school life from a teacher's perspective.  I work for Sony, based in Basingstoke, and in my spare time when I'm not engrossed in household chores or building train tracks with my sons, I enjoy walking, cooking, visiting heritage railway sites (blame the boys for that one) and I am a member of both the National Trust and English Heritage.

  Mr Ian Bowman

Married with two children at North Farnborough .  Enjoy all sports and manage despite creaking bones to continue to play some of them.  Have travelled and lived abroad extensively and in doing so seen schooling in different contexts.  Have a strong desire to ensure the best schooling possible for our children based on understanding what is possible here and what is done elsewhere.

Mr Venky Gupta

After my post graduation, I taught in University for a while and then I entered into big IBM world. I am still interested in learning and teaching so it prompted me to join as a School Governor. I would like to contribute to school's overall development and success. I have also keen interest in all forms of creative arts and specially painting and drawing.

Mrs Kathryn Graham

I am married with 2 children, Thomas is currently in Year 1 and Holly is due to start in September. I currently work part time as a space scientist in Guildford.  I have had a long standing interest in education since being at university and this prompted me to become a governor.  In my spare time I help with a local charity group and enjoy reading and walking.
